OPP warns public of currency scams

The North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding the public to remain vigilant regarding Cryptocurrency investments as there has been a rise in Cryptocurrency scams where individual victims have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraudulent investments.

Cryptocurrency is an online digital currency, which is an alternative form of payment created using encryption algorithms. Cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana are not regulated in Canada and operate independently from banks and investment companies.

Be wary of offers to invest in Cryptocurrency and do your research prior to making investments.

If you suspect you may be the victim of fraud, contact your local police detachment. For more information on how you can protect yourself from fraudulent activities, please visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) website at www.antifraudcentre.ca or contact by telephone at 1-888-495-8501.
