The City of Brampton is taking a bold step toward safer streets by rolling out advanced 360-degree cameras and license plate recognition technology at 50 traffic intersections. Announced today, this cutting-edge initiative aims to arm Peel Regional Police and other law enforcement agencies with real-time data to crack down on crime and enhance community security.
The new system, already active at 19 intersections with the rest in progress, captures live video footage and feeds it into a software platform. Police will gain access to key details like incident timestamps, license plate numbers, and vehicle specifics—make, model, and color—making it a game-changer for investigations and crime prevention. The city expects all cameras to be fully operational by year-end.

No tickets will come from these cameras—they’re strictly for safety, not enforcement. Their mission? To help law enforcement tackle traffic-related crimes, investigate incidents, and address resident concerns more effectively.
By investing in cutting-edge technology, we are giving law enforcement the tools they need to track down offenders and hold them accountable. This is a major expansion of police investigative tools making Brampton the worst place in Canada to commit a crime. It is a game changer in protecting our community and sends a message to criminals that if you commit a crime in Brampton, you will be caught.”- Patrick Brown, Mayor, City of Brampton
Brampton tapped Canadian security tech leader Genetec Inc. for the video management and license plate reader systems, while Sweden-based Axis Communications, a global heavyweight in camera tech, is supplying the 360-degree units.
This move comes hot on the heels of the 2025 budget talks, where residents made it loud and clear: community safety tops their priority list. The city’s response? A hefty investment in state-of-the-art tools to make Brampton the ultimate safe haven.
