A Hindu pandit from the U.S. has been arrested in Oshawa after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman under the guise of a religious ceremony.

On August 25, 2026, police responded to a sexual assault call near Harmony Road North and Conlin Road East. The victim’s family had hired the priest to perform a ceremony. He allegedly convinced her she was possessed and needed a private ritual, during which the assault occurred.

Rajendranauth Doodnauth Maraj, 50, of Richmond Hill, New York, is charged with sexual assault and was held for a bail hearing.
